PTA Highlights

Dear Riverside Parents,

There is a lot to look forward to in October!  We are excited about our Fall Fundraiser on Saturday, October 15th and thrilled that Boo Bash will be back on Friday, October 28th.

The Fall Fundraiser is always a fun night and a great way to meet other parents. All of the funds raised support our children's educational experience at Riverside, and directly fund arts and science enrichment programs, field trips, teacher classroom needs, community events and wellness initiatives.

Tickets for the Boo Bash Spooky Circus will go on sale on Friday, October 7th at 9am. The children will have a blast enjoying games, crafts, pizza and dancing.  Please see below for details and consider volunteering for a shift to help the Boo Bash committee bring Halloween to life for our school community.

Speaking of Halloween, our Green Committee is hosting a Halloween costume, boot and coat drive next week.  Items can be dropped off in the bins out front from October 3rd-7th. Collected items will be displayed and available for all Riverside families and staff on Thursday, October 13th.

A huge thank you goes to our amazing PTA volunteers who work countless hours to make all this possible.

Please mark your calendar for the following key dates:

  • Wednesday, October 5 - No School (Yom Kippur)
  • Friday, October 7 - Boo Bash Tickets on Sale at 9am
  • Thursday, October 13 - School Open House (evening - parents only)
  • Saturday, October 15 - Fall Fundraiser (evening - parents only)
  • Monday, October 24 - Grades K-2 Coffee with Mr. Weiss & Ms. Key

ENRICHMENT PROGRAMS

Author Visit: Victoria J. Coe

Children's author, Victoria J. Coe, conducted interactive workshops with our 2nd and 3rd graders yesterday.  Victoria is the author of the Fenway and Hattie books which are all told from the point of view of a dog! Victoria's passion is broadening young readers' worldviews, so during her sessions she got the students to shift their perspectives and think about and share ways that dogs and humans are the same and different. The kids imagined themselves as dogs and then were prompted to draw or write their own story about a dog’s visit to a new place. The workshop concluded with the students sharing their work and participating in a Q&A with Victoria.

Upcoming Enrichment Programming

  • October 17: Riverside Rhythms - Irish Music Duo (All Grades)
  • October 25:  Government Assembly with Carol Glynn (Grade 3)

These programs are paid for by your generous donations to the PTA. Thank you!

GRADE LEVEL COFFEES WITH MR. WEISS AND MS. KEY

Please save the dates for this year's Grade Level Coffees. Mr. Weiss and Ms. Key will share information about Riverside School and answer questions from parents. Both coffees will take place in the school's café.

REDUCE, REUSE & RECYCLE!

Riverside Musical Team
THE RIVERSIDE MUSICAL TEAM NEEDS YOUR BOXES!

The Riverside Musical team needs your help!  As part of our set design for Matilda, Jr., we are in need of a lot of thin cardboard boxes, ranging from 5"x5" to 12"x8" (think cereal, cracker, art supply and gift boxes).  We would love a variety of rectangular and square boxes and will be collecting them in bins outside of school.  We hope to collect 450 boxes over the next 2 weeks!  Please email Lala Addeo and Jenni Reynolds with any questions.

WE'VE REACHED 78% PARTICIPATION - HELP US TO GET TO 100%!

The PTA relies on the generosity of Riverside School families via our annual Membership Drive. Funds raised go toward student enrichment programs, classroom and building needs, and teacher support. We aim for 100% participation in our Membership Drive, and we are getting close!  If you haven't had a chance yet, please join the PTA and help us reach our goal.

Thank you to everyone who has contributed a donation to join the PTA so far!

SAFETY DUTY: MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN JUST 15 MINUTES!

Safety Duty is an important part of keeping our children safe at Riverside School. Volunteers make the morning drop-off process more efficient and secure. Volunteers assist children as they exit their vehicles in the front driveway from 8:30am - 8:45am daily and help to enforce the “Rules of the Road.”  Sign up online.

For more information, contact Sean Sullivan.
