The Riverside School Song

Alma Mater by Rob Mathes

There’s a place that makes us smile, a place where we all go,
To learn about all kinds of things, to read, to write, to grow.
To run in gym and draw in art, to meet new friends each day.
In math we learn how numbers dance, in music sing and play.

Riverside, Riverside, your spirit it is shining, shining.
Riverside, Riverside, our minds are ever growing, growing,

And we will never forget you.
We will never forget you Riverside School.

Our colors, they are red and white. Our mascot is the redhawks.
Our teachers are so nice and smart. Riverside, we love it.
We yearn to see you everyday, We run to you each morning,
Discover things we never know, something new is waiting.

Riverside, Riverside, your spirit it is shining, shining.
Riverside, Riverside, our minds are ever growing, growing,

And we will never forget you.
We will never forget you Riverside School.

Riverside, Riverside, your spirit it is shining, shining.
Riverside, Riverside, our minds are ever growing, growing,

And we will never forget you.
We will never forget you Riverside School

Our Alma Mater, was written by Rob Mathes in 1997. Rob Mathes is a multi-Grammy nominated and Emmy Award winning music producer, arranger, and composer, who has worked with Sting, Bruce Springsteen, Aretha Franklin, Elton John, and many other world renowned artists. At the time the song was written, Mr Mathes’s wife worked here at Riverside. Over the years, the song sadly got lost, but with the help of Mrs. Barrette and Mr. Ronk, it was discovered again for us to start a new tradition with its words and music.

The song talks about our love of Riverside school and our passion for what we learn and the people who spend each day inside its walls. Not only do we sing about our pride for Riverside, but the song mentions two more important symbols for our school: Our school colors (red and white) and our mascot. Mascot? You might be thinking, we have a mascot?

With the resurrection of this important song, a team of teachers and students, along with our administration began to hunt for the perfect symbol to represent all of us at Riverside. After much deliberation it was decided that the Red Hawk, more scientifically known as the red-tailed hawk, would be the strongest symbol to represent us at Riverside.

Just as the Eagle represents strength and pride for the United States, the Red Hawk is a strong and powerful bird that is native to this area. In fact, you can see this beautiful bird gliding above our playgrounds and the 5 th grade does a hawk study each year to learn more about these wonderful creatures. It is on the wings of the Red Hawk that our students at Riverside will show their perseverance and strength and spread their own wings as they travel into the future to secure their dreams.
