PLEASE NOTE: Due to COVID-19, restrictions that prioritize the safety of the school community may prevent some events and programs from occurring as they normally would in the 2020-2021 school year. Here is a list of current events and end-of-year 5th-grade events that would occur under normal circumstances. We are constantly evaluating which events can take place and in what form to keep everyone safe. Check back often for updates:

The 5th Grade is raising money for the class gift and special initiatives by selling snack packs at the Boo Bash Drive-up Movie. To make it easy for you, we have an online store where 5th-grade parents can donate items to fill the Boo Bash Snack Packs. No need to make a trip to the store, just donate the amount of your choosing and we will take care of buying everything!  We are also looking for 5th-grade parents to help distribute the snack packs at the Boo Bash Drive-In: Sign-up to Distribute Snack Packs.

The 5th grade would like to thank all of the Riverside families who supported the 4 lemonade stands they held over the last two weekends.  Altogether, the 5th-grade classes raised $4,000 for Alex’s Lemonade Stand! This money goes to pediatric oncology research and helping families who are battling childhood cancer.  Thanks to everyone who supported the kids and their efforts in completing a successful community service project!

If you were unable to attend the lemonade stands but still want to contribute, you can donate on Alex’s Lemonade Web Page.

Bike Rodeo is back by popular demand! Our fabulous PE teachers, Mr. Bogardus and Mr. D'Andrea in collaboration with Pedal Greenwich, an organization that promotes biking, have organized a special Bike Rodeo JUST for 5th-grade students on Wednesday, November 10 from 2-3 pm. (Rain date Friday, November 12th)

Event Details

The Bike Rodeo will consist of several interesting and educational stations that the kids will rotate through. They will learn about Bike Safety from a Greenwich Police officer, ride the obstacle course, learn about maintenance of their bikes, etc. There is also a pedestrian safety and fitness station available for those who do not wish to participate in biking.

  • On Wednesday, your child will need to bring his/her bike to school for check-in between 8:30-8:45 am

  • Bike Pickup will be at the end of the day from 3:15-3:30 pm.  Please label your bike if possible, otherwise, a volunteer will do so at check-in.

As always no event can succeed without the support of our volunteers. Please click here to volunteer or visit the parent dashboard MyPage on the web or app to find the signup form.

Please contact Kristin Duda, Julie Dozier, Laurel Fine, or Ruchita Chhajed for any event-related questions you may have.

If you have any specific questions in regards to your child's participation in the event you may also contact Mr. Bogardus.

The 5th Grade yearbook is a wonderful memento of their time at Riverside School filled with pictures from all their 6 years. The end of 5th grade may seem a long way off, but it is time to start work on our yearbook!  We will soon kick off the process, but in the meantime, keep an eye out for:

  • Part 1: We will collect from all 5th grade families various school event photos and one baby photo of your 5th grader
  • Part 2: Your 5th grader will create his/her individual student page
  • Part 3: Order a yearbook

Questions - please contact Julie Dozier and Kristin Duda.

Parents also have the chance to celebrate their 5th graders with an event just for... parents! Be on the lookout for more details as the end of the year approaches.

The 5th Grade Recognition Day / Graduation will take place at the end of the school year in June 2022.

Details regarding this school year's Recognition Day will be updated as the event date approaches.

Here are some details from last year's Recognition Day:

  • At 9:50 am, the 5th-grade students parade around the school starting at the gymnasium and ending on the backfields.  Families gather along the sidewalk to cheer on the graduates as they complete their Riverside School journey. No need to rush to your seats on the backfield as all seats are assigned through a lottery.
  • Reception: There will be an opportunity to take pictures and chat with friends and family after the ceremony.  You may dismiss your child at this time or they can go back to school until regular dismissal at 3:15.
  • Fifth Grade Pool Party: This party, usually held at Riverside Yacht Club, is a drop-off event from 1:30 pm-3:00 pm for FIFTH GRADERS only!  This is usually planned for the last day of school, Tuesday, June 22nd.  More information will follow.

Questions - please contact Julie Dozier and Kristin Duda.
