RECOGNITION DAY & END OF YEAR PARTY  Tue, June 21, 9:30 AM (rain date June 22)

The 5th Grade Recognition Day / Graduation will take place on June 21st. Two chairs per family will be set up, placement will be assigned by lottery.

"Parade of the Learned" will also be held on the same day. All the students from the school will cheer them along their "parade" route to the ceremony, and family members can cheer them too.

The PTA has arranged for a stage for each 5th-grade student to walk across as his or her name is announced in the ceremony. The PTA will also provide an official photographer next to the stage to take a picture of each student as he or she crosses the stage.
After the ceremony, families may remain to take pictures and celebrate the students. Cupcakes, chips, popcorn, and water will be served to celebrate the students' accomplishments.  Parents may dismiss their child at that time or the student can remain in school until regular dismissal at 3:15.

Further Details regarding this school year's Recognition Day have been sent by Mr. Weiss in an email dated May 27th.

It was a fun night to celebrate with other 5th-grade parents! The 5th Grade Parent Party was Saturday, June 11, from 7-10 pm at the home of Lois and Bryan Kelly. It was hosted outdoors, with food, drinks, and music.

We gathered with Riverside parents inside the school on Wednesday, June 1st at 9:15 am in the school café to celebrate the PTA’s accomplishments, thank parent volunteers and catch a glimpse of the annual tribute video featuring Riverside School staff.  Many 5th Grade parents attended (you didn’t have to be a PTA volunteer to do so!).  Parents whose youngest child will be graduating from Riverside School this year received a special invitation, as those in attendance were recognized and asked to participate in a time-honored ritual.

Play in a Day was absolutely amazing! Will be posting pictures soon on the Riverside Reel

Orienteering Adventure Days

PE teachers at Greenwich Public Schools once again lead "Orienteering Adventure Days," an interdisciplinary project that blends fitness, map reading, and team-building skills. PE teachers, staff from Camp Seton Scout Reservation, and all fifth graders from the 11 elementary schools of GPS participated in a day of adventure on Wed, April 27th from 9:15 AM - 1:30 PM. . The event was designed to give students the opportunity to meet and interact with those students who will be in their sixth-grade class in middle school next year.

At Camp Seton, students participated in adventure activities, which included a traversing wall, compass skills and orienteering, and trust-building activities. All students enjoyed a picnic lunch together, allowing them to socialize with their future classmates and friends.

Binney Park

The second annual field trip to Binney Park was organized in collaboration with the Riverside Garden Club on Thursday, April 28th, 5th-grade students walked to Binney Park from school with their class and spent the morning enjoying the day outside in nature exploring various stations at Binney Park to learn about trees, turtles, bees, and more.

Tod's Point Beach Cleanup

Luke Meyers was a dedicated environmental advocate who lost his battle with cancer in

5th-grade families participated on Sat, April 30, in a Beach Cleanup for the 5th-grade spring community service activity to help honor his memory and improve the beach and the environment by participating in a beach cleanup

All non-biodegradable debris was tallied and reported to Save the Sound for submission to the Ocean Conservancy which coordinates results from organizations throughout the world to collect to analyze the pollution in the earth’s waters.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation honored Luke by installing a climate change education exhibit at the Bruce Museum Seaside Center. He wanted the exhibit to focus on sea-level rise and its impact on Long Island Sound marine life, and to increase awareness of what actions can be taken to slow down global warming.

As per tradition, Riverside 5th grade students have a special t-shirt designed just for the class of 2022!

They will be asked to wear it on many upcoming occasions, including spirit days and 5th-grade activities later this year. This is not only a great shirt students will be excited to wear but also a great keepsake as they remember their final year at Riverside School.
