PLEASE NOTE: Due to COVID-19, restrictions that prioritize the safety of the school community may prevent some events and programs from occurring as they normally would in the 2020-2021 school year. Here is a list of end-of-year 5th-grade events that would occur under normal circumstances. We are constantly evaluating which events can take place and in what form to keep everyone safe. Check back often for updates:

5th Grade Yearbook

The 5th Grade class will be receiving a yearbook, It’s a wonderful memento of their time at Riverside School filled with pictures from all their 6 years. The end of 5th grade may seem a long way off, but it is time to start work on our yearbook!  We have just kicked off the process to upload photos for the yearbook (various school event photos and one baby photo).  This is the first part of the process. The second part is for the children to create their individual student page and then the final step in the process is actually ordering a yearbook. More details on parts 2 and 3 will come in the new year.  For now, we are focusing on uploading photos with a deadline of February 5, 2021.  Please review and follow these detailed instructions for uploading photos.

Community Service

It is a tradition each year that the 5th grade participates in a community service project. It is a meaningful way to give back to the community and demonstrate all the values the kids have learned over their years at Riverside. More information will follow once the details have been finalized.

Parent Party

Parents will also have the chance to celebrate their 5th graders with a Beach Night at Tod's Point.  While the date is yet to be determined, the plan is to meet at Tod's Point for a relaxed get-together.  All 5th-grade families are invited to bring food and drinks and kick back on the beach for some quality socializing.

Recognition Day and End of Year Party

The 5th Grade Recognition Day/ Graduation will take place on Friday, June 18th at Riverside Elementary School backfields.  Rain date is Monday, June 21st.

The timing and flow are usually as follows:

  • At 9:50 am, the 5th-grade students parade around the school starting at the gymnasium and ending on the backfields.  Families gather along the sidewalk to cheer on the graduates as they complete their Riverside School journey. No need to rush to your seats on the backfield as all seats are assigned through a lottery.

  • Reception: There will be an opportunity to take pictures and chat with friends and family after the ceremony.  You may dismiss your child at this time or they can go back to school until regular dismissal at 3:15.

  • Fifth Grade Pool Party: This party, usually held at Riverside Yacht Club, is a drop-off event from 1:30 pm-3:00 pm for FIFTH GRADERS only!  This is usually planned for the last day of school, Tuesday, June 22nd.  More information will follow.
