Our mission is to foster a spirit of giving in our students and to care for people and needs, near and far, as a school-wide community.

We aim to spark a desire in our children to become compassionate global citizens by creating opportunities for Riverside families to give back together.

The main goal is to allow our children active participation; Student Council, Rangers, Riverside Reporters, and other student groups are all given leadership roles and ownership of every outreach.

We are pleased to announce our inaugural 100th Day of School Food Drive! We want to celebrate this milestone by helping to feed Greenwich. We will be collecting donated food items from February 7-11, with the final day marking the 100th day of school. All donations will benefit Neighbor to Neighbor. Donations can be left in bins outside the school at morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up. To ensure we collect a balanced mix of items that are needed most, we suggest certain items for each grade:

Grade 5 – Pasta sauce

Grade 4 – Peanut butter and/or jelly

Grade 3 – Chef Boyardee WITH meat

Grade 2 – Canned meats like tuna, chicken, Spam

Grade 1 – Cans of chili

Grade K – Cereal/oatmeal*

Please note: Kindergarten teachers will be running their own food drive as part of 100th-day activities. We encourage K families to prioritize that effort. But if you’d like to support the PTA’s drive as well, you are welcome to!

Fall Food Drive

Riverside School will hold a Fall Food Drive for local food pantries. What a great way to start the school year by giving back to our community! Date TBD.

Holidays for Haiti
Riverside School has been a generous supporter of Danita’s Children orphanage in Haiti. Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere and has been plagued by hardship and natural disasters. For the past two years, Riverside students thoughtfully created over 300 personalized holiday cards and raised over $10,000 for holiday gifts and school books for the students at Danita’s School. This event is a wonderful opportunity for our families to come together to practice generosity and to forge a connection with a child who lives a very different existence. Please visit the event page. November 18 - 19, 2021

Month of Meals
As a post holiday service project, Riverside School has traditionally taken over Inspirica’s meal calendar for the month of January. Stay tuned for details!

Fit for Life
We are excited to repeat our extremely successful “Fit for Life” in the spring. Students are given opportunities to participate in various fitness challenges during gym class as well as raise money for causes that have affected members of our community.
In the past, we raised over $10,000 for Pediatric Brain Cancer Research at Yale New Haven Children's Hospital, over $3,000 for CAFAF–Connecticut Alliance of Foster and Adoptive Families, and $2,370 for FARE–Food Allergy Research and Education. We can't wait to see what we’re able to do this spring for yet another worthwhile cause!
