Our mission is to foster a spirit of giving in our students and to care for people and needs, near and far, as a school-wide community.
We aim to spark a desire in our children to become compassionate global citizens by creating opportunities for Riverside families to give back together.
The main goal is to allow our children active participation; Student Council, Rangers, Riverside Reporters and other student groups are all given leadership roles and ownership of every outreach.
Fall Food Drive - Tuesday, September 29 - Friday, October 2nd
Riverside School is excited to hold a Fall Food Drive for local food pantries at Inspirica and Neighbour to Neighbour. Both charities are in desperate need of unopened and unexpired non-perishable donations during these unprecedented times.
Click here for lists of most wanted items from each organisation.
Contactless donations can be made throughout the day with bins on a table by the front of school. Each day, between 2:30 and 3pm, donations can also be made by pulling up in the front pick-up lane near the bin with your bagged items in the trunk of your car. PTA volunteers will be on hand at this time to unload whilst remaining socially distant from any passengers.
What a great way to start off the school year by giving back to our community!
Holidays for Haiti
Riverside School has been a generous supporter of Danita’s Children orphanage in the impoverished country of Haiti. For the past two years, Riverside students have thoughtfully created 300 personalized holiday cards and raised over $6,000 for gifts for the students at Danita’s. This event is a wonderful opportunity for our families to come together to practice generosity and to connect with a child in another country who lives a very different existence. Please visit the event page. November 9 - 13, 2020
Month of Meals
As a post holiday service project, Riverside School has taken over Inspirica’s meal calendar for the whole month of January. Within the current CDC guidelines, the meal delivery is unable to be in person or made in a home kitchen. One or multiple families can sign up to order a meal from a local restaurant to be delivered to Inspirica’s family shelter. Thank you in advance for your kindness and generosity toward those who have been hard hit by these challenging times.
Run for Life
We are also excited to repeat our extremely successful “Run for Life” in the spring.
In the past we raised over $10,000 for Pediatric Brain Cancer Research at Yale New Haven Children's Hospital, and over $3,000 for Connecticut Alliance of Foster and Adoptive Families in a virtually held event in May. We can't wait to see what we’re able to do this spring for yet another worthwhile cause!
Students and teachers are given opportunities to run and count their mileage during recess and gym class. Pledge sheets are sent home to help students fundraise for the number of miles they will run.
